Camp Lejeune Family Medicine Residency Graduates 11 Residents, 11 Interns

The latest group of Camp Lejeune Family Medicine Residency (CLFMR) graduates took major steps toward their futures as family physicians, hopeful Flight Surgeons, Undersea Medical Officers and newly-advanced medical residents June 28 at the annual Residency Program Graduation.
This year’s graduating class included 11 residents and 11 interns. 
Graduating residents upheld Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune’s (NMCCL) CLFMR’s record of 100% pass rate for the Family Medicine Certification Examination given by the American Board of Family Medicine for the eighth year in a row. 
Each of the newest Navy Family Physicians will move on to perform their medical duties across Navy Medicine throughout the United States, some continuing their careers here at NMCCL. 
Several of the graduating interns will continue their residency at NMCCL; one will continue on to Flight Surgeon training, another to Undersea Medial Officer Training. 
These 22 graduates will join the other 96 Family Medicine Physicians and six Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellows CLMFR has graduated since its inception in 2003. 
The program has a quick turnaround for the upcoming rotation cycle. 
A dozen new interns plus one additional second-year resident joined CLFMR as of June 3, 2019. 
“We are very proud of our graduates and residents. They have worked very hard this year, have taken care of many patients, learned a ton of medicine, and still manage to take care of one another,” said CDR Elizabeth Leonard, Director of CLFR. “They are ready for their next adventures and we wish them fair winds and following seas!”
Interns, usually newly graduated from medical school, will complete a single year of internship working through skills such as Obstetrics, basic procedures, Sport Medicine, Family Medicine Service, Emergency Room, Gynecology, Newborn Nursery, Surgery, Musculoskeletal Medicine, and a rotation at Vidant Medical Center for Pediatrics. 
Following internship, students will complete two years of residency, which includes rotations in Obstetrics, Emergency Room, basic procedures, Gynecology, Practice Management and Research, Family Medicine Service, Mental Health, Geriatrics, Intensive Care Unit, Research/Quality Management, Sports Medicine, Dermatology, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
CLFMR also has a Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship that trains family physicians to do more complicated and surgical obstetrics over the course of a year. 
That program has graduated nearly a dozen Fellows, some of whom are integrated into a four-year residency training program.
